Large Eddy Simulation for Turbulent Flows

Abstract

In this talk we will review some new results in Large Eddy Simulation, one of the most promising approaches for the numerical simulation of turbulent flows.  We first present a new model for the interactions between the large scales and the large and small scales in the flow. This model is based on a new closure approximation which better preserves the attenuation of the small eddies.  We then present a numerical validation of this model for the 2-D  driven cavity test
problem.  We also present a new model for the interactions among the small scales in the flow, as an alternative for the popular model of Smagorinsky.
