Low-Dimensional Galerkin Models of Shear Flow

Abstract

The first hierarchy of low-dimensional Galerkin models for cylinder wakes and for spatially evolving shear-layers is presented.

The hierarchy includes models from several hundred to three degrees of freedom. Thus, the key mechanisms of shear flow dynamics are elucidated.
