Waves in Ferromagnetic Materials

Abstract

Small perturbations of equilibrium states in ferromagnetic media give rise to traveling waves. Using asymptotic analysis, we show how the speed of propagation of these waves varies with the equilibrium state. We also show that, on a slow time scale, the dispersive effects are described by nonlinear heat equations. We illustrate these results with some numerical examples.
